Electricity rates going up in May
( from 610 CKTB News), April 5, 2013
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) announced it was hiking electricity rates starting May 1. According to the OEB, it works out to a $3.63 increase on the electricity line, or about 2.9% on the monthly bill, for the average household. The increase coincides with the switchover to the summer schedule for those on the time-of-use electricity pricing.
Peak pricing period - weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. - will rise by 0.6 cents to 12.4 cents/kWh.
Mid-peak pricing - weekdays 7-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. - will rise by 0.5 cents to 10.4 cents/kWh.
Off-peak pricing - weekends, holidays, and weekdays, 7 p.m - to 7 a.m. - will rise 0.4 cents to 6.7 cents/kWh.
The OEB sets electricity prices twice each year. This increase is based on increased costs from sources including renewables, nuclear and hydro-electric.
